Warm, sloppy Lab kisses given to all who enter. Woodhaven Labradors has been in existence, in Michigan, since 1974. We pride ourselves in breeding "All-Purpose" Labrador Retrievers. This means our Labs are of a more moderate "type" which is at home in the ring or field. We believe that the Labrador should remain a RETRIEVER and therefore retain the athleticism that allows the Lab to do what it is bred for......RETRIEVE.

We are one of the founding members of the Huron River Labrador Retriever Club (HRLRC) and the Great Lakes Labrador Lovers. We are also a member of the Labrador Retriever Club, Inc. (LRC). We enjoy showing in conformation, obedience, agility, retriever field events, tracking, participating in therapy work and mostly just enjoying our Labs as pets. Our dogs have earned numerous titles in these competitions.

We are not a big operation, just having approximately 1-2 litters a year. We are extremely particular about who adopts our Woodhaven/"Woody" babies and therefore rarely sell out of the Michigan/Great Lakes area so we can assure our puppies of the proper home. Our puppy owners must pass an extensive interview. We sell our pet puppies on a Limited Registration and require them to be spayed/neutered. We require that our puppies be kept in the house as family pets. Whether the pups are used as hunting companions, show or obedience competitors, or are couch potatoes, we want them to be part of a family.

We are not actually located in Woodhaven, MI rather we took the name Woodhaven because our first dog was born there. Our home is near Flint, MI.

We aren't house-proud. If we were, we wouldn't abide the scratches on the door frame, the holes in the screen, the darkened shine of worn spots on the chair. We would wince at the mottled carpet and fret at the hair clinging to our clothes.

We don't. If anything, we lovers of dogs are a tolerant lot, finding greater value in the unabashed affection of our friends than in the immaculate sofas. Shoes can be replaced, but heroic retrievers are timeless.

Without dogs, our houses are cold receptacles for things. Dogs make a fire warmer with their curled presence. They wake us, greet us, protect us and ultimately carve a place in our hearts and our history. On reflection, our lives are often referenced in parts defined by the all-too-short lives of our dogs. -- Paul Fersen
